WELCOME

Welcome to the Website of the Church of Ireland Parish of Cobh & Glanmire. The Parish is part of the Diocese of Cork, Cloyne and Ross, and the Church of Ireland is a member of the Anglican Communion.

We do hope that you will enjoy looking around the site - which has been designed with both parishioners and visitors in mind.

The Parish covers all the islands in the Cork Harbour area ~ Great Island and Little Island, Haulbowline, Spike and Fota.  It is an area of great natural beauty and stretches from the edge of Cork City to Midleton and includes Cobh, Glanmire, Riverstown, Glounthaune, Carrigtwohill and an area stretching inland to Knockraha and Templemichael.

The town of Cobh is the largest town in the county after Cork city, with an excellent heritage centre.  Formerly known as Queenstown, it has close links with the loss of the liners Titanic and Lustiania.  (The Lusitania victims are buried in the Old Graveyard at Ticknock.)  The Roman Catholic Cathedral of St. Colman has the largest Carillon in Europe and an extensive database of local Roman Catholic Baptismal records.

In January 1996, two previously separate parishes Rathcooney and Clonmel were combined to become the united parish of Cobh and Glanmire.
